New Year's Eve Service, The Truth Project is Coming Back (Pastoral Emphasis for 12/28)

Everyone is invited to join us for our New Year's Eve Service at 10:00pm on Wednesday, December 31st.  If you can't attend in person, watch online at Zion Live . The Truth Project is a wonderful small group course to help believers develop a biblical worldview. RSS or Email Subscribers click through to see the video For those of you who have not taken the Truth Project, Bro. Roderick & Sis. Jacquelyn Harrison will be hosting The Truth Project Life Group starting Friday, January 9th, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at their home. Please sign up online . Another reminder that we ask everyone to not move and leave right after the sermon (unless you must go to work) as we don't want the movement to be a distraction for the call to discipleship. If you need to leave before the end of the service, you can exit when we call for the altar prayer.

Merry Christmas, Holiday Schedule, Free Mobile Dental Unit (Pastoral Emphasis for 12/21)

May you have a joyous time celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  The Good News is that Jesus was born as a baby, wrapped in swaddling cloths. Jesus is God wrapped in flesh. Jesus had to be fully human so that He could offer a sacrifice on the Cross that would take away the sins of the people.  Jesus took our nature in Bethlehem, to die our death in Jerusalem.  Merry Christmas to everyone. Holiday Schedule: No prayer meeting, Bible Studies for the next two weeks.  And there will be no elder-led prayer on Tuesday.  This will give time for everyone (including our teachers and deacons) to enjoy their families. Everyone is invited to join us for our New Year's Eve Service at 10:00pm on Wednesday, December 31st.  Come out and bring a friend as we praise God for another year. Zone 3 is on Mission: the Free Mobile Dental Unit will be held on Saturday, January 10th, at Mt. Zion from 8:00am - 5:00pm. We have 10 appointments available for Mt. Zion (first come,

Worship @ Raleigh Winterfest, Christmas Program & Dinner, Don't Distract (Pastoral Emphasis for 12/7)

The Worship Ministry did an awesome job at the Raleigh Winterfest last night.  We praise God for the opportunity to sing and mime the praises of Jesus to the gathered crowd and those walking around.  Come out and celebrate our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at our Christmas Program and Dinner on Saturday, December 13th, at 4:00pm.  This is a perfect opportunity to invite your friends and family to fellowship with our Church Family.  Please sign up online and indicate the number of people in your group.  Members are asked to bring their favorite side dish or dessert. Also, please indicate what food dishes you will be bringing on the sign-up sheet that will be located at the Welcome Center. And the church was blessed with a lot of meat so we'll be providing the meat. Immediately following the service today, all singles (never married, divorced, widowed) were invited to gather in the multipurpose room to go to the Golden Corral in the Crossroads area of Cary for a Meet & Gre

The Gospel Is And Ain't, Raleigh Winterfest, Invite Someone to Church (Pastoral Emphasis for 11/30)

I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving.  For many, the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays can be tough due to recent lost of family members.  Please pray for Deaconess Shirley Smith (loss of sister), Sis. Lachonya Williams (loss of mother), Evangelist Patrick Wilson (loss of grandmother), Deaconess Angelique Cherry (loss of brother), Minister Amekuedi (loss of sister), Bro. Derrick Wiggins (loss of father), and I know others here have lost loved one as well.  Let's continue to pray for one another during times of bereavement. With all of the events surrounding Ferguson, many are trying (rightly so) to work towards solutions.  But in order to correctly prescribe a cure, we might rightly diagnosis the problem.  And ultimately the problem is sin.  No human justice system will be perfect because consists of imperfect, sinful human beings.  So if sin is the problem, then the cure is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  So the mission of the church is to spread the Gospel and make discipl

Elder-led Prayer, No Bible Study this week, Why does God prosper me? (Pastoral Emphasis for 11/23)

The next Elder-led Prayer will be held on Tuesday from 6pm to 7pm. Everyone is invited to join us. If you are unable to attend, submit your prayer requests online . Due to Thanksgiving Holiday, we'll not have Wednesday evening activities including Bible Study or Thursday morning Bible Study.  If you are traveling, be safe and enjoy time with your family. During the 150th Church Anniversary Celebration next year, we will honor our beloved members who have passed on.  Sis. Phyllis Lewis is collecting obituaries from families for this honor.  Please see her to determine if she has a copy of your loved one's obituary.  Thank you for providing a copy if needed. We do not want to omit anyone.  We will collect the obituaries through the month of December. All of our members are asked to give at least 5% above your normal giving (tithe/offering), but if you would give 10% or above that would really help make a difference in impacting our shortage. We want to end the year as stron

Do You Know Him? (Spoken Word), God Will Supply Your Needs (Pastoral Emphasis for 11/16)

RSS or Email Subscribers click through to see the video Everyone is welcome to join Zone 4 members when we minister at Phoenix Assisted Living this afternoon at 2:00pm. A Mini-Concert will be rendered by the Praise Team. All of our members are asked to give at least 5% above your normal giving (tithe/offering), but if you would give 10% or above that would really help make a difference in impacting our shortage. The church leadership has been asked to give at least 10% above their normal giving. We want to end the year as strongly as possible. Don't forget to drop your change in the change receptacles around the church towards meeting our budget. So drop off your change as often as you can. Remember when Paul was in Thessalonica, the Philippians supported him financially. Philippians 4

Fall Spruce Up Report, Meet & Greet, Excel in Grace Giving (Pastoral Emphasis for 11/9)

The report for our Fall SPRUCE UP: A total of 57 hours @ $25.00 for a savings of $1,425.00 for our church.  Zone 4 continues to led the way with the most members coming out.  Thanks again to all who came out to help us keep our church clean. We had an Elders' Meet and Greet right after service today for all new members that have completed orientation between June and October.  Most of them said that they joined because the truth of God's Word is being taught and the love they felt. All of our members are asked to give at least 5% above your normal giving.  This will help us recover our current financial deficit so we can end the year as strongly as possible.  We're also going to utilize the change receptacles around the church towards meeting our budget.  So drop off your change as often as you can.  This is another great way for our children to be involved as well.  2 Corinthians 8:7-9 (NIV): "But just as you excel in everything--in faith, in speech, in knowl

Pastor Saeed's Letter, New Bible Study Series, Vote on Tuesday (Pastoral Emphasis for 11/2)

I read Pastor Saeed's letter to his daughter for her 8th birthday. I pray that we could all have this level of faith and trust in the sovereignty of God when we are facing deep suffering. Here's an excerpt that especially moved me... I know that you question why you have prayed so many times for my return and yet I am not home yet. Now there is a big WHY In your mind you are asking: WHY Jesus isn’t answering your prayers and the prayers of all of the people around the world praying for my release and for me to be home with you and our family.   The answer to the WHY is WHO. WHO is control? LORD JESUS CHRIST is in control. Please read the entire letter .  I hope it moves and encourages you.  Please continue to pray for Pastor Saeed and his family. Thanks for all who came out to SPRUCE UP our church on yesterday. Your time and service is greatly appreciated. We are starting a new Bible Study series on Wednesday at 7:00pm called "Completion and Reconciliation i

The Gospel and Domestic Violence

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. I wish we didn't need to have a an awareness month for domestic violence. But the sad reality is that we live in a fallen and broken world. So we must address it and bring awareness to our communities. But it is especially important that the topic of domestic violence be addressed by the church. Russell Moore, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, in his article "The Church and Violence against Women", writes...  "Male violence against women is a real problem in our culture, one the church must address. Our responsibility here is not simply at the level of social justice but at the level of ecclesical justice as well. We must teach from our pulpits, our Sunday school classes, and our Vacation Bible Schools that women are to be cherished, honored, and protected by men. This means we teach men to reject American playboy consumerism in light of a Judgment Seat

It's time again to SPRUCE UP our church. Join us on Saturday, November 1 for our Fall SPRUCE UP as we clean God's house. Let's be good stewards with the building that God has blessed us with.  We will begin at 9:00am and end at 12:00pm promptly. All are invited. I want to encourage everyone to vote in the upcoming election. People govern based on their worldview. The laws of a nation will determine the direction of the nation. So we need Christians to vote based on biblical principles and worldview. Get infor

Exploring the Holy Spirit, Renewal Service with Vision Church, Prayer Rally 2014 (Pastoral Emphasis for 9/14)

And I pray that you would be empowered by the Holy Spirit to pursue it. On Wednesday at 7pm, we're starting a new 3-week Bible Study series, "Exploring the Holy Spirit". Who is the Holy Spirit? What does He do? There's so much confusion around the doctrine of the Holy Spirit so come out, and bring friends to learn and be equipped to share the truth about the Holy Spirit. Also on Wednesday, the Graduate and Professional Ministry is reconvening Wednesday Night Bible Study for our young adults. Mark your calendar for our Renewal Service on Friday, 9/26 at 7pm. BTS Supply Drive Thanks, New Series in Acts, God's Grace Equals Giving (Pastoral Emphasis for 8/31)

Thanks to all who donated and supported our 3rd Annual Back to School Supply Drive.  The donations continue to increase each year.  Your willingness to serve the community has allowed us to provide supplies and personal items to West Cary Middle School, Raleigh Rescue Mission, and Oxford Children's Home.  Next Sunday, we start our final series in Acts, covering chapters 13 to 28.  The series is called "Missions to the Ends of the Earth".  This is our longest series that will take us well into next year.  Join us and bring someone as we dig into the last part of Acts. As we got ready to worship through our giving, I shared this excellent writing from our Sunday School lesson.  God's grace equals giving... "Jesus paid the cost of leaving heaven to become a baby, grow up on earth, live with constant criticism by religious people, and die on the cross.  He paid the price that we might experience God's grace (undeserved favor).  Therefore, our giving s

Theological Seminar Notes, Elder-Led Prayer, Philippians Bible Study (Pastoral Emphasis for 8/24)

Thanks to those who attended the Theological Seminar on yesterday. We have a few copies of the handout available at the Welcome Center.  If we ran out and you would like one, please contact me (pastorharris AT mtzioncary.org) and I'll send you a soft copy. You can also watch the seminar online or order a DVD copy of it . Please join us for Elder-led Prayer on Tuesday from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. We will be focusing on praying for strength, deliverance, and endurance.  So if you're struggling with something (physical, emotional, spiritual, etc) including a particular sin, come out on Tuesday.  Do not keep pretending that everything is okay or keep hiding your struggle. James 5:13-16 (ESV) states, "Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick [the Greek word literally means "weary" such as weary from suffering]? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with

Prayer for Ferguson & Persecuted Christians, "Never Read a Bible Verse" (Pastoral Emphasis for 8/17)

The recent events should be a reminder that we live in a fallen world infected by sin.  Human depravity is on display with the senseless killings of individuals like Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO by the police and even the massacre of Iraqi Christians (who are fleeing for their lives) by radical Islamic terrorists .  This is why we have no time to play church weekly but we should gather to worship Jesus Christ and be equipped to go out and spread the gospel (people need Jesus) and serve our communities (love our neighbors). Please pray.  Pray for Ferguson, Missouri...that peace be restored in this city.  Pray for Michael Brown's family...that they would be comforted as they mourn the loss of their loved one.  If they don't know our Lord Jesus, that they would come to know him through this tragedy.  Pray for the officer involved in this shooting.  Pray for honesty and justice.  And if the officer does not know Jesus as Lord that God would use this tragedy to save him.  Pra

Theological Seminar on Studying the Bible, "Welcome to the Family!" (Pastoral Emphasis for 8/10)

You asked for it! Dr. Ben Merkle, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary , is returning to teach part 2 of "How to Study the Bible."  Join us for this theological seminar on Saturday, August 23rd, from 9:00am to 12:00pm.  Come out and learn how to properly read and study Scripture.  Light refreshments will be served.  Please register for the seminar online. Sunday afternoon, the Men's choir and I traveled to Virginia for my speaking engagement at Lovingston Baptist Church for their Family and Friends Day.  Thank you all for your prayers as we were able to travel to and from and have a great service. My text was John 8:31-38 with the subject "Welcome to the Family".  Sin is a harsh slave master that oppresses and tortures us. And ultimately sin kills us (for the wages of sin is death). What we need is liberation.  We need freedom but we cannot free ourselves.  Christ is our great liberator and redeemer who sets believers free from the bondage of sin!

Christians, STOP Frontin'

Even after God has saved us, believers still struggle with pride. How does pride show in the life of believers? One of the ways is the "fake it to you make it" attitude. This attitude will have us putting on a mask because we want others to think we have it all together. That's pride. God's grace enables us to be transparent. Another way is when we are not willing to receive help from others. It sounds so humble to say that we don't want to bother others but really that's pride. True humility is being able to receive help when we truly need it. James 4:6 (ESV): But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." I love this video from Joe Solomon ( @WhatIsJoeDoing ) where he discusses how believers "front" and gives some wise counsel on being transparent with other believers.   RSS or Email Subscribers click through  here  to see the video

Minister Matt Darby shared his testimony about Ecuador.  He reminded us to not just look for the miraculous, external things as a sign of God working.  God is working even when it doesn't appear that way.  We are to be faithf

The Gospel for Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers. But we should acknowledge that Mother's Day can be a tough day for many. Some of you have lost your mother.  Take comfort in God, our heavenly Father.  The Bible says that God watches over His people like a hen who protects her chicks under her wings.  If you are in Christ and your mother was in Christ, then you shall see her again. Some mothers have lost children (some by miscarriages or abortion).  God has mercy on children and I do believe you shall see your child one day in eternity.  And even if you have aborted a baby, there is forgiveness in Christ.  Christ can remove your shame and guilt. 1 John 1:9 (ESV): If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. There is no condemnation for those in Christ! There are some women who desire to have children but it has not happened yet.  Trust in the sovereignty of God and know that your self-worth and identity

Zoe's Kitchen, Why Life Groups?, Mother's Day Book Giveaway (Pastoral Emphasis for 5/4)

Zoe's Kitchen has extended their fundraising support for our Ecuador Missions Trip.  Every Sunday, mention Mt. Zion when you purchase food and 15% of your order will go to our missionaries. Why did we start Life Groups? Life Groups are small groups where community exists. As Mt. Zion has grown is not always possible to build meaningful relationships on just Sunday mornings.  Life Groups provide a safe place for us to know others and be known by others, love and be loved, serve and be served, and to celebrate our walk with Christ together!  It is in Life Groups that we find understanding and support.  And it is also the place where we hope discipleship relationships will develop. We have a variety of Life Groups available now.  You can go to the Life Groups website or you can check with a discipleship ministry member for more details. We also would love your feedback regarding Life Groups (such as you're too busy; don't see a group that fits; etc). This will help u

Galatians Bible Study, Ash Wednesday, Initial Sermon (Pastoral Emphasis for 3/2)

This Wednesday, we start a new Bible Study series on the book of Galatians. Join us and bring a friend as we'll look at how we are justified by faith alone and not by obedience to the Law. Wednesday is also Ash Wednesday . Ash Wednesday is the first day of the Lent season (40 day period of prayer and fasting).  After Bible Study, we'll be anointing everyone with ashes to demonstrate our mourning over sin and repentance before God. During Lent, we call everyone to fast and pray. You can decide to do a total fast of all foods or a partial fast of a particular food or activity . David Platt writes in Follow Me , “Why do we fast as disciples of Jesus? Because our souls feast on the glory of God. Fasting is an external expression of an internal reality. When we fast for a meal or a day or a week, we remind ourselves that more than our stomachs long for the pleasure of food, our souls long for the presence of God. We are satisfied in Him and by Him in a way that nothing
