Elder-Led Prayer, My Hope Sunday, The Gospel for Bikers (Pastoral Emphasis for 2/25)

Thanks to all who attended yesterday's Theological Seminar on "The Doctrine of Sanctification". If you missed it, you missed another good one. You can check out the recorded video and pick up a handout at the Welcome Center.  The next Elder-led Prayer will be held on Wednesday, February 28th, from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. If you are not able to attend but have prayer requests, you can submit them online . Our next My Hope Sunday is 3/18. All members should start to pray about who they will invite to that Sunday. Today, we welcomed Bro. Mike Jerkins' biker group. There were about 50 bikers in the service . I shared the following verse and message with the bikers. "In your majesty ride out victoriously for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; let your right hand teach you awesome deeds!" Psalm 45:4 (ESV) The writer of this psalm is talking about a king who was a mighty man of valor, who demonstrated his valor by riding forth to champion t

Florida School Shooting, Movie Night, Theological Seminar (Pastoral Emphasis for 2/18)

Tragically, we have another school shooting, this time in Florida were 17 were killed . We should mourn with those who have lost loved ones. When shootings like this continue to occur, people often ask "where was God?" Tragedies like this happen to remind us that things are not like they should be. We live in a fallen world due to sin. God allows tragedies so that people would repent and turn to Him. One day Jesus will return and set everything right. In the meantime, we must pray, spread the Gospel, make disciples, and love our neighbors. Lent has started which is 40 days (not counting Sundays) that began on Ash Wednesday and will end on Easter Sunday, April 1st. For Lent, we're calling for a church-wide partial fast where you give up certain foods, drinks, or activities. Fasting is a way of disciplining ourselves to say that Jesus is better than whatever we're giving up. In addition to fasting, we should be praying. And we have much to pray for. The Young Adults

Theological Seminar, Ash Wednesday, Church-wide Fasting (Pastoral Emphasis for 2/11)

While we are positionally holy when we are justified by God, we know that we still sin. Therefore, we need to be progressively made holy. This is what sanctification means. To "sanctify" is to make a person holy. To "sanctify" is to set a person apart for special use. Join us for our upcoming theological seminar on Saturday, February 24th, from 9 am to 11:15 am. Dr. John Hammett from SEBTS will be teaching on "The Doctrine of Sanctification". Come out and learn about this important doctrine. Light refreshments will be served. Please register for the seminar online . This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday which is the start of Lent season.  We will be anointing with ashes after Bible Study around 8pm.  We anoint with ashes as a symbol of our mourning and repentance over sin.  If you'd like to be anointed with ashes but cannot make it that evening, you can come to the church between 11am and 1pm to be anointed with ashes. Again, we're calling for

The True G.O.A.T., A Seat at the Table (Pastoral Emphasis for 2/4)

So there's a big game today.  I don't have a dog in this fight but I know a lot of people are preparing for the big spectacle.  Whether you're a fan or not, a lot of people consider quarterback Tom Brady the G.O.A.T (greatest of all time) because of his record.  But I'm more excited about another Man.  He doesn't have any rings but He wears a gold crown on His head.  He hasn't been named MVP but He's called King of kings and Lord of lords!  He hasn't won any football games but He's risen from the dead!  He is the true G.O.A.T...Jesus Christ!!  May our praise and affections for Jesus be far greater than for the Superbowl! Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 17th, at 3:00pm for "A Seat at the Table", a multicultural dramatization in honor of Black History Month. Please come out and celebrate with us. See Min. Brandi Hancock for more info.
