Parent Awareness Session, With Love from Jesus, Haiti Relief (Pastoral Emphasis from 1/24)

On Monday, we had our first Church Family Meeting of the year. Here is the Huge announcement from the meeting. There will be a 2010 PARENT AWARENESS SESSION on Friday from 6:00pm to 8:30pm for all parents and their children up to 17 years old. Please sign up at the Welcome Center. This Saturday (1/30) we will be volunteering at With Love from Jesus (WLFJ) ministry in Raleigh. This fulfills our vision of spreading the Gospel, serving the community, and partnering with others for the cause of Christ. WLFJ serves the needy in our community by provided groceries, furniture, etc. And most importantly, they pray and share the Gospel with many people. They ask area churches to volunteer their time to come and serve at their location. Let's again put our faith in action and take a BIG group from Mt. Zion to help out. This upcoming Sunday is our first Youth Contemporary Service of the year at 4:00pm. Pastor Mark-Anthony Middleton of the Abundant Hope Christian Church in Durham

HUGE Announcement

I've been teasing about this being a HUGE announcement. Well, it's huge and it's not huge. For a long time now, our desire is that Mt. Zion would operate based on Biblical principles rather than denominational structures and traditions. So unlike some traditional Baptist churches, we don't have a deacons board that rules over the pastor (we have Elders) and we are not a part of the National Baptist Convention. It's huge in the fact that after 143 years, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church is going non-denominational! This fits our vision to reach all people. Some un-churched people may not even consider visiting a Baptist church. It's not huge in the fact that nothing really changes. The operation and culture of Mt. Zion will continue to be the same. It's just a name change. We will officially be called "Mt. Zion" or "Mt. Zion Church". Our non-profit organization will be Mt. Zion, Inc. So now that it's official, let's contin

New Series, Men's Prayer Breakfast, Mark Calendar for HUGE announcement (Pastoral Emphasis for 1/10)

We kicked off a new Bible Study series, "When We're Afraid to Forgive," on Wednesday. If we long to receive mercy, why is it so painful to give it? Join us for this new series. The Men's Prayer Breakfast is scheduled for this Saturday from 8:00am to 10:00am. All men are invited and bring a friend. Mark your calendar for the first Church Family Meeting on January 25th at 7pm. We have a HUGE announcement and will discuss other cool initiatives. You will not want to miss it!

Happy New Year, Spiritual Survival Class, IMPACT the World (Pastoral Emphasis from 1/3)

Happy New Year! We have some exciting things that are going to be happening this year. I hope everyone get excited and involved! I want to remind everyone that they are both worshipers and ministers! You may not have the gift to sing, but you are a worshiper (so go ahead and make a joyful noise)! You may not be called to preach, but you are a minister! Use the gifts that God has given you to minister to others. The next quarterly Spiritual Survival Class is scheduled to begin Sunday, January 17th. This is a great class if you are new to the faith or if you need a refresher. Sign up at the Welcome Center. Our 2010 theme is "IMPACT the World". On next Sunday, I'm starting a series called "Impact the World: Catch the Vision". If you are new to Mt. Zion, this will be a great series to find out more about the vision that God has given us. If you've been around for a while, I hope that this series will re-energize you for all the things that God has f
