My Hope, Summary of the Gospel, This Week's Fast (Pastoral Emphasis for 3/8)

With our theme of Being a House of Prayer, we're going to have a pastoral prayer every Sunday. We'll have a different topic to pray for each month led by an elder. March's prayer topic is "Repentance & Personal Holiness". Today, Elder Sean Cherry read Romans 5:1-5 and led us in a prayer of repentance and hope.

Today was My Hope Sunday where we had invited guests with whom we could share the hope we have in Jesus Christ. Bro. Lawrence Roberts shared the testimony of his diagnosis of MS and how God used that to develop and strengthen his faith. I preached on Romans 6:23 with the topic "My Hope is in the Gospel of Jesus Christ".

The Gospel of Jesus Christ can be summarized with these four points:
  1. God (Creator, holy, and must punish sin)
  2. Man (Rebelled and has fallen short of God's glory)
  3. Christ (Died on the cross to bear the wrath for all who would believe)
  4. Response (God calls everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and trust in Christ in order to be saved)

As Christians, we are to help those who are in need. We have someone in our church who is going through a very difficult time and needs our help. Next Sunday, we're going to raise a love offering to help this member. Please come prepared to give generously to the love offering next week.

As a church body, we are fasting and praying during Lent. This week, 3/9-3/14, we're going to fast from some particular favorite activity with a prayer focus on confession and repentance.

Dress Code, Spreading the Gospel to Japan, Skits & Pizza (Pastoral Emphasis from 7/26)

Thanks to all who came out to the Church Family Meeting. Our focus is reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though we don't have a formal dress code at church, I think we have an unspoken one. Our guest may perceive a dress code based on what they see on the stage from leadership. So in order to remove any barriers that might prevent some from visiting us or feeling comfortable in our service, the leadership will dress a little more casual. We will try this out until the end of the year and then evaluate. So don't be surprised when you see me not wearing a tie! I shared the following email that we got via our website to show that we are spreading the Gospel worldwide. To God be the glory! Greetings Mt. Zion Church Family...Today is July 27, 2009 and I would like to share the blessing that I have received from your church. I was talking to my very dear sister, soror, friend Sis Brandi Hancock and she and I were having a heart to heart. I told her that I was

One Life Saved

The Bible declares that all life is valuable. "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (Psalm 139:13-14). Here's the story of one life saved....
