Finish Well, Welcome to New Members, Congrats to Newlyweds (Pastoral Emphasis for 6/30)

My sermon today was on Joshua 13-19 on the subject "Finish Well" .  God has not saved us to start the Christian race, face hardships and spiritual battles, and not finish! God wants us to finish well. Even after all of our spiritual victories, there remains more work for us to do. We have not arrived. While we still have breath and with whatever measure of strength we have, we must continue to serve God. It's never too late to serve God, so stop making excuses. Don't delay; your inheritance is guaranteed. God has given us the victory, but we must not be complacent so we can finish well in our calling. We're taking another break from Joshua. We'll return in August to wrap up the series. We welcome one who has recently come forward to join the church under Watch Care: Sis. Kelly Macklin We also welcome Bro. Jadon Roberts as an adult member after completing NMO and his membership interview). After the service, Isiah Smith and Ashante Ramirez exchanged vows and ...

Friends for Comfort, VBS '24, Happy Memorial Day (Pastoral Emphasis for 5/26)

As the month of May comes to a close, we'll been addressing different mental healh topics in our pastoral prayer topic of “ New Mercies for Mental Health ”. We need to break the stigma around mental health illness especially in the church. It's okay if you need counseling or therapy. It's okay if you need to take medication. God in His common grace towards humanity has provided doctors, counselors, and medicine as means to help us. See a counselor and/or take medication if you need to but keep your trust in Jesus.  We've prayed about Depression (Light for the Darkness), Anxiety (Peace for the Anxious), and Suicidal Tendencies (Hope for Life). Today, we'll focus on “Friends for Comfort (Supporting Those Suffering)”. Many of us know people who are suffering from mental health struggles. We often don't know how to support them because we don't know what to say, therefore, we end up avoiding them which adds to their isolation and suffering. You don't have t...

Hope for Life (Suicidal Tendencies), Church-Wide Prayer Gathering (Pastoral Emphasis for 5/19)

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness month, our May prayer topic is “ New Mercies for Mental Health ”. We need to break the stigma around mental health illness especially in the church. It's okay if you need counseling or therapy. It's okay if you need to take medication. God in His common grace towards humanity has provided doctors, counselors, and medicine as means to help us. Take medication if you need to but keep your trust in Jesus.  We've prayed about Depression (Light for the Darkness) and Anxiety (Peace for the Anxious). Today, we' focused on “ Hope for Life (Suicidal Tendencies) ”. According to recent CDC studies, 22% of young people and 12.3 million adults in the U.S. have seriously considered suicide. Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among people aged 10- 14, the 3rd leading cause of death among those aged 15-24 and the 12th leading cause of death overall in the U.S. If you have had suicidal thoughts, I want you to know that you are not alone ...

Peace for the Anxious, Happy Mother's Day, Biblical Counseling Certification (Pastoral Emphasis for 5/12)

We have different prayer topics each month led by an elder. In recognition of Mental Health Awareness month, our May prayer topic is “ New Mercies for Mental Health ”. Today, we focused on “Peace for the Anxious (Anxiety)”. We all experience anxiety. From having to take a test, speaking in front of people, going on a job interview, to having to juggle a lot of different responsibilities and tasks. However, an anxiety disorder is when feelings of intense fear and distress become overwhelming and can prevent us from doing everyday activities. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health concern in the United States. Over 40 million adults...

New Mercies for Mental Health, May Birthdays & Anniversaries, Sisterhood Week (Pastoral Emphasis for 5/5)

Each month we have a different pastoral prayer topic. In recognition of Mental Health Awareness month, our May prayer topic is “ New Mercies for Mental Health ”. Today, our focus was “Light for the Darkness (Depression)”.  We need to break the stigma around mental health illness especially in the church. It's a false assumption that a Christian is always “happy”. A Christian can struggle with depression and yet have the joy of the Lord. It's okay if you need counseling or therapy. It's okay if you need to take medication. Medication is a matter of wisdom, not morality . It's not a matter of right or wrong. God in His common grace towards humanity has provided doctors, counselors, and medicine as means to help us. Take medication if you need to but keep your trust in Jesus.  Our Call to Worship scripture was Psalm 13 which is a psalm of lament. Lament is how Christians grieve. Lamenting gives voice to your pain and allows you to wrestle through your sorrow as you move t...
