New Mercies for Mental Health, May Birthdays & Anniversaries, Sisterhood Week (Pastoral Emphasis for 5/5)

Each month we have a different pastoral prayer topic. In recognition of Mental Health Awareness month, our May prayer topic is “New Mercies for Mental Health”. Today, our focus was “Light for the Darkness (Depression)”.

We need to break the stigma around mental health illness especially in the church. It's a false assumption that a Christian is always “happy”. A Christian can struggle with depression and yet have the joy of the Lord. It's okay if you need counseling or therapy. It's okay if you need to take medication. Medication is a matter of wisdom, not morality. It's not a matter of right or wrong. God in His common grace towards humanity has provided doctors, counselors, and medicine as means to help us. Take medication if you need to but keep your trust in Jesus.

Our Call to Worship scripture was Psalm 13 which is a psalm of lament. Lament is how Christians grieve. Lamenting gives voice to your pain and allows you to wrestle through your sorrow as you move towards God. Biblical lament is a prayer in pain that leads to trust in God.

It's the BEST month of the year! Happy Birthday our May babies (including myself)...

Happy Anniversary to our May couples...

Our May Senior Birthday Surprise goes to Sis. Ruby Franklin.

The Delta Academy GEMS thanked the church for hosting them last year. This program has the purpose of offering a road map for college and career planning. It is open to all junior and senior high girls.

Ladies, Titus 2 Women's Ministry is kicking off its Sisterhood Week today through next Sunday. Each day there is a theme activity to share with your fellow sisters in Christ.

Minnesota School Shooting, Music Ministry Recruitment, Ark Encounter Trip (Pastoral Emphasis for 8/31)

Minnesota School Shooting Our hearts are heavy over the tragic school and church shooting in Minneapolis at Annunciation Catholic School, where two children lost their lives and many others—some as young as six—are recovering from serious injuries. Sadly, we couldn't get through a full week of traditional school before something like this happens. In this time of profound sorrow, let us hold close in prayer the grieving parents, families, and the entire Annunciation community. Though we cannot fully comprehend their pain, we can stand alongside them in faith, offering compassion, and intercession. May God bring comfort to those who mourn, healing to the wounded, and peace to a terrified community.  Of course, a mass shooting always brings up the issue for stricter gun laws. I agree we do need good legislation and sensible gun laws because it is the government's responsibility to protect its citizens. Ultimately, that will not solve our problem. For a country that has been ...
