Response to SCOTUS Ruling, July Communion, Prayer & Intercessory Team (Pastoral Emphasis for 6/28)

I see on social media that everyone is so impressed with the President singing Amazing Grace at a funeral. But this same man gave his approval to the Supreme Court's ruling to legalize same-sex marriage. He said it was a "victory for the United States." Romans 1:32: "Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them." No, Mr. President, God is not mocked. His grace is amazing and it saves wretched sinners (heterosexual & homosexual alike). But one must confess their sins, repent (turn from sin), and trust in Christ.

So what should our response be as Christians:
1) Weep and mourn: Our hearts should break over the institutionalization of sin. If this does not grieve you then you need to check your worldview and maybe even your spirituality. Psalm 119:136: "My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your law."
2) Pray: We must pray for our nation, leaders, friends and family, and church
3) Be the church. We don't have time to play around. So I say to all of Mt. Zion (all who profess to be Christians) as Elijah said to the people of Israel, "How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him."

Pastor Thabiti Anyabwile summed it up perfectly: "The recent ruling of SCOTUS has tremendous social and legal implications for all citizens of the country. But the ruling does not in any way change the Christian understanding of marriage or the biblical understanding of sexual morality. The ruling will sharpen and clarify the difference between the church and the world, and sometimes it will do that between true churches and false churches following the course of the world. This is a sad development to the extent that it hardens people in their sin. This is ultimately a good development to the extent it purifies and strengthens the church. But nothing fundamental has changed for those who love their Bibles and obey their Lord in the most intimate of matters."

We are reading through the Bible as a church family this year. We're following the 52 week reading plan. We are on week 26.

Sis. Sandra Broadwater shared a great testimony for her Life Group called "Never Alone".  She has witnessed her own personal growth as well as those who are participating because they are able to share their struggles and receive spiritual support for one another.  So if you're not in a Life Group, check out which one might be right for you and get involved.

Due to the 4th of July holiday next weekend, we'll have communion on the second Sunday in July instead of the first.

There was a brief meeting right after service today for all who are interested in knowing about the Prayer & Intercessory team.  If you missed the meeting but would like the info, please contact me.

Mortgage Burning Ceremony (10.6.24)

Today is a day of celebration and gratitude as we come together to witness the burning of our church’s mortgage! This moment represents years of faith, commitment, and sacrificial giving from this congregation. It’s a testament to God’s faithfulness and the dedication of His people. What we are celebrating today is not just the end of a financial obligation, but the beginning of new possibilities for missions, outreach, and service in our community.   ---     Psalm 127:1 says, ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.’   This building has been more than just bricks and mortar; it has been a spiritual home where so many lives have been touched by the gospel. We recognize that while we’ve paid off the mortgage, it is the Lord who has truly built this house, sustaining us through every season.   --- History of the Vision         Though this chapter is closing, the mission God has ...

My Hope Sunday, M:T Not a Competition, Prayer Gathering (Pastoral Emphasis for 10/13)

Today was My Hope Sunday ! We had several invited guests, and my message was from 1 Samuel 8:4-9 on "Looking for a Savior".  Israel wanted a king like the other nations who would “save” them. This is the very definition of a functional savior. A functional savior is anything or anyone a person looks to for ultimate hope, security, identity, or fulfillment in place of God. Whatever you look to to “save” you from your problems, fears, or insecurities is your functional savior. But all of our functional saviors cannot save us. Jesus is the Savior we really need!  Our greatest need in this life and the life to come is to have our sins forgiven by trusting in Jesus as our Lord and Savior! Today, my wife shared her My Hope Testimony .   (RSS Subscribers: click here to watch the video) Missions:Together’s "Not a Competition" is a powerful missions gathering designed to re-ignite your passion for missions on Saturday, November 2, hosted at The Summit Church in Apex.
