Prayer for National Revival, Congrats to 2020 Grads, JA Lewis Scholarship Winner (Pastoral Emphasis for 6/28)

With our theme of Being a House of Prayer, we're having a pastoral prayer every Sunday. We'll have a different topic to pray for each month led by an elder. June's prayer topic is Revival. Today, I read Jeremiah 18:7-11 and prayed for national revival. Here's a part of my prayer...
Lord, grant us national repentance. Send Your Holy Spirit to bring repentance and saving faith to the lost. Help us to return to You by turning from our evil ways and doing what is right. You said, “Righteousness is what exalts a nation”.

Lord, send a revival of righteousness. Turn the hearts of our local and national leaders to do Your will. Give us leaders who will do what is right for the people. Give us court systems that administer justice equally and fairly. May we create laws that better reflect Your law and Your character. May we acknowledge You in all spheres of our society.

Lord, send a revival to our nation...

Today was our Youth Sunday. Graduating senior Olivia Sallis delivered a message, "Be Humble or Be Humbled" based on the Parable of the Guests from Luke 14:7-11.

We recognized our 2020 High School Graduates. Congratulations to the following seniors...
  • Isaiah Harris
  • Eboni Hayes
  • Joseph Lucas
  • Jared Moore
  • Ashante Ramirez
  • Olivia Sallis
  • Ashley Spivey

We had 5 applicants to the JA Lewis Scholarship and the scholarship committee indicated that it was a really tough decision. Each applicant is to be commended for their well-written and thought-provoking essays. Each clearly expressed in their essays how they plan to connect their career choice to serving God and spreading the Gospel. But the winner of the 2020 JA Lewis Scholarship is ASHLEY SPIVEY!!

We have a Home Study Guide and Youth Personal Quiet Time available for today's sermon. So sit down with the guide to review and apply the sermon.

Next Sunday, we'll be celebrating the Lord's Supper so you can stop by the church during the specified hours to pick up your communion kits or make sure you have bread (unleavened) and grape juice/wine at home.

Dress Code, Spreading the Gospel to Japan, Skits & Pizza (Pastoral Emphasis from 7/26)

Thanks to all who came out to the Church Family Meeting. Our focus is reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though we don't have a formal dress code at church, I think we have an unspoken one. Our guest may perceive a dress code based on what they see on the stage from leadership. So in order to remove any barriers that might prevent some from visiting us or feeling comfortable in our service, the leadership will dress a little more casual. We will try this out until the end of the year and then evaluate. So don't be surprised when you see me not wearing a tie! I shared the following email that we got via our website to show that we are spreading the Gospel worldwide. To God be the glory! Greetings Mt. Zion Church Family...Today is July 27, 2009 and I would like to share the blessing that I have received from your church. I was talking to my very dear sister, soror, friend Sis Brandi Hancock and she and I were having a heart to heart. I told her that I was

One Life Saved

The Bible declares that all life is valuable. "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (Psalm 139:13-14). Here's the story of one life saved....
