New Sermon Series in James, My Hope Sunday, Ash Wednesday (Pastoral Emphasis for 2/23)

Today was our Youth Sunday with the youth leading the service and the Youth Praise Team singing.  Minister Jae Smith preached on the Parable of the Vineyard Workers from Matt. 19:30-20:16 on the topic "It's Not Fair...But".

With our theme of Being a House of Prayer, we're having a Pastoral Prayer every Sunday. We'll have a different topic to pray about each month led by an elder. February's prayer topic is "Family". Today, Elder Wayne Bullock read Colossians 3:1-11 and prayed for singles and individuals.

The Mt. Zion Worship Ministry is presenting a casting call for all ages on March 15 directly after service in the MPR for the 2020 Christmas Program.

We're starting a new sermon series in the book of James on 3/1 called The Gospel & Works. We'll be examining the relationship between faith and works.

My Hope Sunday is 3/8. All of our members are asked to commit to inviting at least one unbeliever or unchurched person to join us at church. During that service, we will share the hope we have in Jesus Christ. On the commitment card, write down the name(s) of those you are committed to inviting. We will collect the commitment cards on 3/1 to pray over. We also have invite cards that you can use to invite your guests.

In preparation, we're going to have testimonies about where our hope is. Today, we heard from Deacon Corey Smith about how losing his job was a gift from God to help him focus on prioritizing his wife and family.

Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday, 2/26. We will anoint with ashes after Bible Study on Wednesday. If you're not able to make it then, you can stop by the church during the day from 10am to 2pm to be anointed with ashes.

Ash Wednesday is the start of Lent and we're going to be fasting and praying during the 40-days of Lent. Each week, we'll be fasting from something different and with various prayer focuses. This week, from 2/26-2/29, we'll be fasting from Social Media, TV, or various streaming services (like Netflix). Our prayer focus will be worshipping God for His praiseworthy attributes.

Dress Code, Spreading the Gospel to Japan, Skits & Pizza (Pastoral Emphasis from 7/26)

Thanks to all who came out to the Church Family Meeting. Our focus is reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though we don't have a formal dress code at church, I think we have an unspoken one. Our guest may perceive a dress code based on what they see on the stage from leadership. So in order to remove any barriers that might prevent some from visiting us or feeling comfortable in our service, the leadership will dress a little more casual. We will try this out until the end of the year and then evaluate. So don't be surprised when you see me not wearing a tie! I shared the following email that we got via our website to show that we are spreading the Gospel worldwide. To God be the glory! Greetings Mt. Zion Church Family...Today is July 27, 2009 and I would like to share the blessing that I have received from your church. I was talking to my very dear sister, soror, friend Sis Brandi Hancock and she and I were having a heart to heart. I told her that I was

One Life Saved

The Bible declares that all life is valuable. "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (Psalm 139:13-14). Here's the story of one life saved....
