Bible Reading Plan, Oak City Academy, "Built upon the Rock" (Pastoral Emphasis for 1/4)

Happy New Year! We are going to be reading through the Bible again as a church family.  We're using the 52-week Bible reading plan that starts today.  Each day of the week is dedicated to a different genre: Epistles, The Law, History, Psalms, Poetry, Prophecy, and Gospels.  If you didn't get a copy of the reading plan at the church, you can download it here.

Join us for part 2 of the Bible Study series, "Exploring the Holy Spirit", starting on Wednesday.  We will examine some of the most debated and significant issues like blasphemy against the Spirit, Spirit Baptism, gifts of prophecy and tongues, and more.  You will not want to miss this series.  Come out and bring a friend.

As a part of our mission to serve our community, I had the opportunity to be introduced to Oak City Academy, a Classical Christian Montessori School in Raleigh.

I love that the school is helping students to have a biblical worldview.  There will be a brief meeting after the service on next Sunday with the school's director.  They're looking to diversify their teaching staff as well as partner with more African-American churches.

Married & engaged couples, today is the last day for you to sign up for the Oneness Life Group in Durham.  This Life Group will be exploring The 5 Love Languages by Dr. Gary Chapman.  Sessions will be held at the home of Deacon & Deaconess Spivey on the 2nd Saturdays of each month.  Please check with the Spiveys for questions and/or to sign up.

This is the 150th year of our church!  Our anniversary theme as well as our church theme for the year is "Built upon the Rock".  We're going to have an anniversary gala and more in September.  So stay tuned and get involved.

Dress Code, Spreading the Gospel to Japan, Skits & Pizza (Pastoral Emphasis from 7/26)

Thanks to all who came out to the Church Family Meeting. Our focus is reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though we don't have a formal dress code at church, I think we have an unspoken one. Our guest may perceive a dress code based on what they see on the stage from leadership. So in order to remove any barriers that might prevent some from visiting us or feeling comfortable in our service, the leadership will dress a little more casual. We will try this out until the end of the year and then evaluate. So don't be surprised when you see me not wearing a tie! I shared the following email that we got via our website to show that we are spreading the Gospel worldwide. To God be the glory! Greetings Mt. Zion Church Family...Today is July 27, 2009 and I would like to share the blessing that I have received from your church. I was talking to my very dear sister, soror, friend Sis Brandi Hancock and she and I were having a heart to heart. I told her that I was

One Life Saved

The Bible declares that all life is valuable. "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (Psalm 139:13-14). Here's the story of one life saved....
