Hopefully, everyone knows this by now, but on February 17, 2009, full-power TV stations will stop broadcasting in analog and switch to 100% digital broadcasting. You will not be affected if you have cable or satellite. But if you have an older analog TV and receive a signal over an antenna, you will need to purchase a converter box. The government is providing $40 coupons to help with the purchase of these converter boxes. Warning...these coupons expire 90 days after they are mailed.
I would suggest you wait until the second half of the year to get your coupon and buy your box. Most of the converter boxes available now are in the $50 to $60 range. But better and less expensive boxes (around $40) are expected to come out later this year.
Check out this post on CNET's Crave blog for more details about why you should wait.
