Pastoral Emphasis from 4/27

Last Sunday, I issued the Psalm 119 challenge. The challenge is to read a verse of Psalm 119 everyday for the next 176 days (since there are 176 verses). This is to encourage and help discipline us to read the Bible daily. Plus each verse of Psalm 119 talks about God's Word. So I encourage everyone to mediate upon the verse you read and keep a journal about what insights you receive about God's Word.

The Church Family Meeting is tomorrow (4/28) at 7:00pm. All members are asked to be present to stay informed about what's happening at the church.

The James Stephens III Scholarship foundation is accepting essays for the up coming Scholarship Gala. They have several book scholarships yet to award to high school seniors going on to college. Please refer interested parties to the following website, DAFUNNYMAN.COM or office (919)466-9092. The Gala is May 10th.

We had no CDs left from our free give-away of the message "Do you love Jesus more than these things". We made some extra copies for some of you who expressed interest of getting a copy. Those of you, who left your name, please pick up your copy at the Welcome Center.

May 1st is the National Day of Prayer (NDOP). I, along with other area pastors, will be participating in Cary's observance of the NDOP on Thursday at the First United Methodist Church on Academy Street at 12 noon. If you are available during this time, please come out and join us as we pray for our nation.

One-Stop Voting is going on now so that you can vote early for the May 6th Primary Election. In Cary, voting will be at the Herbert Young Community Center. Pick up a card at the Welcome Center for dates and times or check here. Please exercise your right to vote.

This past week was administrative/secretary week and I want to recognize the following individuals on our staff that do an extraordinary job: Barbara Smith (our church secretary), Minister Amekuedi (our financial secretary), and Elder Bullock (who is performing church administrative duties).

Responding to the Flooding, Christmas in July Food Drive, New Sermon Series (Pastoral Emphasis for 7/13)

Responding to the Flooding All of us are painfully aware of the devastating flooding that struck our nation recently. As of Friday evening, the confirmed death toll in Texas has risen to 129, with at least 150 individuals still missing across the state. Our hearts are heavy, and we grieve for the lives lost and the families enduring unimaginable pain. One of the first things people tend to do is look for someone to blame. Was it the fault of the warning system not being early enough? Was it the fault of the government (state and federal)? Was it the fault of God? If God is so good, why do we suffer with natural disasters like flooding that takes the lives of seemingly innocent people like young children? The reality is that the fault lies with us. Humanity decided to rebel against the Creator God, thereby, ushering in sin and the fall from God's perfect creation. Natural disasters happen because we live in a fallen world ravaged by sin. Natural disasters like these floods are trag...
