Pastoral Emphasis from 1/27 and Church Family Meeting

Thanks to everyone who signed up to disciple our young men & women. We have all of our boys and girls assigned to someone who will help them become disciples of Jesus Christ.

Ladies, you are invited to accompany the Deaconess' Ministry to help serve dinner at the Helen Wright Center in Raleigh on Thurs., Jan. 31st. The sign-up sheet is available at the Welcome Center.

Thanks to all members who attended our Church Family Meeting on Monday. Some important points from the meeting:
  • We are in the process of updating our Constitution & By-Laws and policies and procedures with information regarding our new meeting room scheduling and church discipline. There will some more updates coming so we will let everyone know when all updates are done so that you can download the most recent copy from the church website.
  • We also encourage families to sit together during worship service. We don't want the teens to congregate in one location and end up talking and passing notes. It's the parents' responsibility to make sure their children are not being disruptive in the service.
  • Sacrificial Giving Update : So far we have given 79% of our vows. Even though our campaign is over, I encourage everyone to continue to fulfill your vows. Just as I stated at the beginning of the campaign, your vow is not to the me or the church, it is to God.
  • Part of our vision is to help spread the Gospel to the world. We want to start financially supporting overseas missionary ministries. So on one Sunday each month, we will raise an offering for this purpose.
  • I also announce that Sis. Rachelle will be transitioning out of the financial secretary role after about 20 years to pursue other interests. Minister Amekuedi will become our new financial secretary. In the meantime, we are updating our financial procedures and Elder Bullock is handling this.
  • Your 2007 giving statements are now available for pick up at the welcome center.

Hi Pastor Harris,

I just read your blog and I agree with you about the teens. I have found that my son and I sit near the teens to let them know they should not be disrespectful in church. We are not afraid to tap them on the shoulder and kindly tell them not to pass notes, or laugh and talk during service.

I appreciate your leadership at Mt. Zion and blessed to be a member.

Be blessed,
Sandra

Mortgage Burning Ceremony (10.6.24)

Today is a day of celebration and gratitude as we come together to witness the burning of our church’s mortgage! This moment represents years of faith, commitment, and sacrificial giving from this congregation. It’s a testament to God’s faithfulness and the dedication of His people. What we are celebrating today is not just the end of a financial obligation, but the beginning of new possibilities for missions, outreach, and service in our community.   ---     Psalm 127:1 says, ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.’   This building has been more than just bricks and mortar; it has been a spiritual home where so many lives have been touched by the gospel. We recognize that while we’ve paid off the mortgage, it is the Lord who has truly built this house, sustaining us through every season.   --- History of the Vision         Though this chapter is closing, the mission God has ...

My Hope Sunday, M:T Not a Competition, Prayer Gathering (Pastoral Emphasis for 10/13)

Today was My Hope Sunday ! We had several invited guests, and my message was from 1 Samuel 8:4-9 on "Looking for a Savior".  Israel wanted a king like the other nations who would “save” them. This is the very definition of a functional savior. A functional savior is anything or anyone a person looks to for ultimate hope, security, identity, or fulfillment in place of God. Whatever you look to to “save” you from your problems, fears, or insecurities is your functional savior. But all of our functional saviors cannot save us. Jesus is the Savior we really need!  Our greatest need in this life and the life to come is to have our sins forgiven by trusting in Jesus as our Lord and Savior! Today, my wife shared her My Hope Testimony .   (RSS Subscribers: click here to watch the video) Missions:Together’s "Not a Competition" is a powerful missions gathering designed to re-ignite your passion for missions on Saturday, November 2, hosted at The Summit Church in Apex.
