Helping Hurricane Victims, Prayer 2018, My Hope Sunday (Pastoral Emphasis for 9/23)

I hate that I missed church today due to not feeling well but I was able to worship a bit via Zion Live. Big thanks to Elder Wayne Bullock for covering pastoral emphasis and baptism for me and Minister Brandi Hancock for bringing a wonderful word on "There is a Cost when You Carry the Cross" from Phil. 3:8-9.

We are currently looking into ways that we can help and serve those who have been affected by Hurricane Florence. We'll probably start collecting items this week for donations. I'm happy to see that some of you have already started helping in your own way. In fact, Elder Sean Cherry is in Wilmington now volunteering through the Baptists On Mission organization. Let's continue to pray for those affected by the storm.

Don't forget to sign-up for PRAYER 2018 on 10/2, from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. PRAYER 2018 is a city-wide prayer rally where over 100 churches will gather to worship and pray together. Mt. Zion has 24 seats reserved. Sign-up online.

Our next My Hope Sunday is 10/14. All of our members are asked to commit to inviting at least one unbeliever or unchurched person to join us at church on 10/14. During that service, we will share the hope we have in Jesus Christ. So start thinking about who you will invite to My Hope Sunday and pray that they would come and God will save them. In preparation for My Hope, we'll be having testimonies from members about their hope in Jesus.

Today, Bro. George Richards shared his testimony about how God not only saved his soul but his life from gangs, drugs, and all the rebellion he had done in his youth. He is know thankful to have a job, landscaping business, godly wife, children, and grandchildren.

Minnesota School Shooting, Music Ministry Recruitment, Ark Encounter Trip (Pastoral Emphasis for 8/31)

Minnesota School Shooting Our hearts are heavy over the tragic school and church shooting in Minneapolis at Annunciation Catholic School, where two children lost their lives and many others—some as young as six—are recovering from serious injuries. Sadly, we couldn't get through a full week of traditional school before something like this happens. In this time of profound sorrow, let us hold close in prayer the grieving parents, families, and the entire Annunciation community. Though we cannot fully comprehend their pain, we can stand alongside them in faith, offering compassion, and intercession. May God bring comfort to those who mourn, healing to the wounded, and peace to a terrified community.  Of course, a mass shooting always brings up the issue for stricter gun laws. I agree we do need good legislation and sensible gun laws because it is the government's responsibility to protect its citizens. Ultimately, that will not solve our problem. For a country that has been ...
