Louisiana Flooding, My Hope, Back to School Prayer (Pastoral Emphasis for 8/28)

As many of you are probably aware, there has been catastrophic flooding in South Louisiana, claiming 13 lives and causing the evacuation of 30,000 residents.  The flood has been called the worst US natural disaster since Hurricane Sandy in 2012.  On Sunday, 9/11, we want to raise a love offering to help the flood victims.  We are looking to donate to the Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief.  Southern Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers are right now delivering clean, safe water, warm nutritious meals and the love of Christ as they seek to advance the gospel.  If you're ready to give before 9/11, please make a note indicating that it's for the flood.

Prayer 2016 is a triangle-wide gathering of churches for the purpose of worship and prayer.  It will be held on 9/20 from 7-9pm at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium.  Mt. Zion has 22 seats reserved.  Please register online or see our prayer coordinator, Sis. Sandra Broadwater.

My Hope Sunday is 10/9.  All members are asked to commit to inviting at least one unbeliever/unchurched person to attend church with you.  Think about who you will invite and start praying for them. In a couple of weeks, you'll submit their names as your commitment to invite them.  We'll also have invitation cards available then.  Sis. Cynthia Aldridge shared her testimony of past abuse in her previous marriage and current suffering with rheumatoid arthritis but her hope is in Jesus Christ.

Due to next Sunday being Labor Day weekend, we'll be having Communion on the second Sunday, 9/11.

Traditional school starts back on tomorrow so we had a back to school prayer for students, teachers, counselors, administrators, custodians, and bus drivers for the new school year.
"Father, we pray for those who teach others: for all involved in all aspects of education, for those who teach in day schools, in colleges of further education, or in universities. May they have wisdom, integrity, and a commitment to share all that is good and true and right. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for those who are taught: for children and young people, for those just beginning school and those now planning their future, for those studying away from home for the first time in their lives and for those still trying to use all they have been taught. May they discover that learning is more than just information and life is bigger than all they have been given.
We pray for those whose words and actions influence others.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. "~from "Let Us Pray: 120 Prayers for All Occasions"

Responding to the Flooding, Christmas in July Food Drive, New Sermon Series (Pastoral Emphasis for 7/13)

Responding to the Flooding All of us are painfully aware of the devastating flooding that struck our nation recently. As of Friday evening, the confirmed death toll in Texas has risen to 129, with at least 150 individuals still missing across the state. Our hearts are heavy, and we grieve for the lives lost and the families enduring unimaginable pain. One of the first things people tend to do is look for someone to blame. Was it the fault of the warning system not being early enough? Was it the fault of the government (state and federal)? Was it the fault of God? If God is so good, why do we suffer with natural disasters like flooding that takes the lives of seemingly innocent people like young children? The reality is that the fault lies with us. Humanity decided to rebel against the Creator God, thereby, ushering in sin and the fall from God's perfect creation. Natural disasters happen because we live in a fallen world ravaged by sin. Natural disasters like these floods are trag...
