Pray for Deacon Gibbons, Veteran's Day (Freedom Didn't Come Cheaply), Thanksgiving Outreach (Pastoral Emphasis for 11/11)

I'm asking everyone to continue praying for Deacon Gibbons and his health.  Also, pray for Sis. Gibbons' strength and encouragement as she cares for her husband.

Today is Veteran's Day.  We remember and thank the veterans who helped maintain liberties all of us routinely take for granted. The freedoms we enjoy didn't come cheaply.  We should also reflect upon what God has done for us, as the price He paid for our freedom also didn't come cheaply.  If you know and love Jesus, it is because He did the impossible for you: He knew and loved you first, paid for your sin on the cross, and reconciled you back to the Father. For that, we should be eternally grateful!

Once again, we are partnering with Mosaic Church for a Thanksgiving Outreach. We will gather on Saturday, Nov. 17th at 9am at Mosaic Church to assemble boxes of food for our adopted neighborhood (same one that we gave school backpacks to) and distribute them that same morning.

Here is what we need:
$10 grocery store gift cards (this goes toward a ham or turkey)
boxed or bag mashed potatoes
canned green beans
canned corn
boxed corn bread mix
gravy packets
canned cranberry sauce

There will be collection boxes out at the church for you to drop off the items. We only have a short runway but I know that we can do it.  Also, we need volunteers for the assembly and distribution on 11/17.  Please sign-up online. Let's be a blessing to this neighborhood where many are less fortunate than us. Thank you so much for your generosity of your money and time.

Next Sunday, I'm starting a new series in the book of Amos entitled, "Judgment is Coming".  This will be a tough series but a timely and needed one. What the prophet Amos tells Israel has contemporary applications to us today.

Dress Code, Spreading the Gospel to Japan, Skits & Pizza (Pastoral Emphasis from 7/26)

Thanks to all who came out to the Church Family Meeting. Our focus is reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though we don't have a formal dress code at church, I think we have an unspoken one. Our guest may perceive a dress code based on what they see on the stage from leadership. So in order to remove any barriers that might prevent some from visiting us or feeling comfortable in our service, the leadership will dress a little more casual. We will try this out until the end of the year and then evaluate. So don't be surprised when you see me not wearing a tie! I shared the following email that we got via our website to show that we are spreading the Gospel worldwide. To God be the glory! Greetings Mt. Zion Church Family...Today is July 27, 2009 and I would like to share the blessing that I have received from your church. I was talking to my very dear sister, soror, friend Sis Brandi Hancock and she and I were having a heart to heart. I told her that I was

One Life Saved

The Bible declares that all life is valuable. "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (Psalm 139:13-14). Here's the story of one life saved....
