Thanking God for His Names, 2020 Ministry Initiatives, Security Review (Pastoral Emphasis for 1/26)

With our theme of Being a House of Prayer, we're having a Pastoral Prayer every Sunday. We'll have a different topic to pray about each month led by an elder. January's prayer topic is "Worship and the Attributes of God". Today, I read Exodus 3:13-14 and prayed a prayer of worship thanking God for His nature as revealed by His many names.

After service, we had our first Church Family Meeting. We praised God for all the wonderful things we enabled us to accomplish in 2019.

And we also talked about our initiatives for 2020:
  • Increase focus on developing a culture of prayer
  • Developing a Disciple-Making Culture (The Vine Project phase 2)
  • Youth Worship Services (2nd & 3rd Sundays)
  • Increased discipleship of men
  • Welcome Anthony Easter to be the musician for the Youth Praise Team on 4th Sundays
  • 4th Sunday Youth Praise Age Expansion (8 to 18)
  • Development of Christian Counselor’s Ordination
  • Celebrate the church’s 155th anniversary

We also reviewed our security procedures in case there was ever a church shooting. Our security team asks that we "shelter in place" by getting down as low as possible during an incident so that they can engage with the shooter.

I also emphasized the following items that are happening at the church for members to participate in:

Minnesota School Shooting, Music Ministry Recruitment, Ark Encounter Trip (Pastoral Emphasis for 8/31)

Minnesota School Shooting Our hearts are heavy over the tragic school and church shooting in Minneapolis at Annunciation Catholic School, where two children lost their lives and many others—some as young as six—are recovering from serious injuries. Sadly, we couldn't get through a full week of traditional school before something like this happens. In this time of profound sorrow, let us hold close in prayer the grieving parents, families, and the entire Annunciation community. Though we cannot fully comprehend their pain, we can stand alongside them in faith, offering compassion, and intercession. May God bring comfort to those who mourn, healing to the wounded, and peace to a terrified community.  Of course, a mass shooting always brings up the issue for stricter gun laws. I agree we do need good legislation and sensible gun laws because it is the government's responsibility to protect its citizens. Ultimately, that will not solve our problem. For a country that has been ...
