Praise Report, Community Food Distribution Report, Theological Seminar (Pastoral Emphasis for 8/20)

Praise Report: Deacon Cliff Hardaway's open-heart surgery was successful. In fact, the aneurysm was worst than originally thought. The doctor said it was so big that Deacon Cliff should have been dead! The aneurysm had already started to rupture. Even the doctor had to acknowledge that it was God that kept him! Continue praying for Deacon Cliff’s recovery and be considerate to the family and Cliff’s rest that we limit visitation.

Thanks to all who volunteered and served at our Community Food Distribution on yesterday.  Here's the report from the event:
  • 145 families served
  • 54 volunteers from Mt. Zion (including 5 youth and 1 member of children's church)
  • 24 members from leadership
  • Remaining food was taken to Dorcas Ministries which will help support 353 other families
  • Elder Cherry had conversation with lady who is a new Christian. Her family is Albanian Muslim. He encouraged her to visit us.
Join us for our Discipleship Journey at Bible Study. On Wednesday at 7pm, we'll be looking at the fact that Jesus came with a mission. Jesus came to serve God and set us free.

Don't forget to register for our upcoming free Theological Seminar on 8/26 starting at 9am. This year marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, which was the Protestant split from the Roman Catholic Church initiated by Martin Luther. Our Seminar will consider how the doctrines from the Reformation (Sola Scriptura, Sola Fida, Sola Gratia, Solie Deo Gloria, Solus Christus) relate to us today, especially the practical relevance to both our beliefs and church practices. Dr. Stephen Eccher (SEBTS) will be teaching.

Dress Code, Spreading the Gospel to Japan, Skits & Pizza (Pastoral Emphasis from 7/26)

Thanks to all who came out to the Church Family Meeting. Our focus is reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though we don't have a formal dress code at church, I think we have an unspoken one. Our guest may perceive a dress code based on what they see on the stage from leadership. So in order to remove any barriers that might prevent some from visiting us or feeling comfortable in our service, the leadership will dress a little more casual. We will try this out until the end of the year and then evaluate. So don't be surprised when you see me not wearing a tie! I shared the following email that we got via our website to show that we are spreading the Gospel worldwide. To God be the glory! Greetings Mt. Zion Church Family...Today is July 27, 2009 and I would like to share the blessing that I have received from your church. I was talking to my very dear sister, soror, friend Sis Brandi Hancock and she and I were having a heart to heart. I told her that I was

One Life Saved

The Bible declares that all life is valuable. "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (Psalm 139:13-14). Here's the story of one life saved....
