Boston Bombing, Speaking at New Destiny, Next Sermon Series (Pastoral Emphasis for 4/21)

Pray for the people affected by the Boston bombing and the plant explosion in Texas. People often wonder how people can do such a thing as bombing at a marathon. The prosperity gospel and other false doctrines have no answer for this. But the Bible is clear that we are all sinners. Evil comes from the heart. So the answer is not just stricter laws and legislation (those are needed) but the Gospel of Jesus Christ! It is faith in Christ that changes hearts.  Christ takes evil people, forgives their sins, gives them new hearts, and transforms their lives.  This Scripture from today's Sunday School lesson made me think of the bombing.

1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 (ESV): For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

I see the bombing at the Boston marathon analogous to the day of the Lord.  As people were running the race, thinking they have peace and security, sudden destruction came upon them. And those who were killed or injured did not escape.  This is why we must be on God's mission to spread the Gospel so people will be ready for the coming day of the Lord!  We do not run the Christian race for a perishable medal but we run and endure for an eternal prize that was purchased and given to us by Christ.

Today's reading from the Chronological Reading Plan: 2 Samuel 1-4

Thanks to you all who participated in our Spring Spruce Up on yesterday. Your efforts were greatly appreciated. I heard quite a few comments from mothers and wives that they now know children and husbands can clean so expect to clean more at home. Sorry about that!

I will be speaking at New Destiny Christian Fellowship (Pastor Maurice Wright) for their 9th Church Anniversary on Thursday at 7:30pm. Your prayers and support is appreciated.

On Saturday, April 27th, from 11:00am to 3:00pm, the Youth Ministry will be having a car wash to raise donations for their community service event. Come out and support our youth!

Mark your calendar for our next Church Family Meeting on Monday, April 29th, at 7:00pm. All members are asked to attend.

Starting next Sunday, I'm starting a new series in 2 Timothy called "Gospel Endurance: Fight the Good Fight". Join us and bring friends.

Mortgage Burning Ceremony (10.6.24)

Today is a day of celebration and gratitude as we come together to witness the burning of our church’s mortgage! This moment represents years of faith, commitment, and sacrificial giving from this congregation. It’s a testament to God’s faithfulness and the dedication of His people. What we are celebrating today is not just the end of a financial obligation, but the beginning of new possibilities for missions, outreach, and service in our community.   ---     Psalm 127:1 says, ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.’   This building has been more than just bricks and mortar; it has been a spiritual home where so many lives have been touched by the gospel. We recognize that while we’ve paid off the mortgage, it is the Lord who has truly built this house, sustaining us through every season.   --- History of the Vision         Though this chapter is closing, the mission God has ...

My Hope Sunday, M:T Not a Competition, Prayer Gathering (Pastoral Emphasis for 10/13)

Today was My Hope Sunday ! We had several invited guests, and my message was from 1 Samuel 8:4-9 on "Looking for a Savior".  Israel wanted a king like the other nations who would “save” them. This is the very definition of a functional savior. A functional savior is anything or anyone a person looks to for ultimate hope, security, identity, or fulfillment in place of God. Whatever you look to to “save” you from your problems, fears, or insecurities is your functional savior. But all of our functional saviors cannot save us. Jesus is the Savior we really need!  Our greatest need in this life and the life to come is to have our sins forgiven by trusting in Jesus as our Lord and Savior! Today, my wife shared her My Hope Testimony .   (RSS Subscribers: click here to watch the video) Missions:Together’s "Not a Competition" is a powerful missions gathering designed to re-ignite your passion for missions on Saturday, November 2, hosted at The Summit Church in Apex.
