Pastoral Emphasis from 12/10

All members are invited to participate in our Family Christmas Celebration on Sat., Dec. 16th at 3pm at the Herbert Young Community Center which is across the street diagonally from the church.

Please note our Holiday Service Schedule: On 12/24, 12/31 there will be one service at 10:30am with Sunday School starting at 9am. See the church calendar for changes to prayer meeting and Bible Study.

I also wanted to bring awareness to the situation that's happening in Darfur (a region in western Sudan). This has been a Weekend of Prayer and Action for Darfur. If you are not familiar with what's happening, there's an ongoing conflict between the Arab militias (back by the Sudanese government) and black African rebels resulting in over 2 million civilians displaced and an estimated death toll of 400,000 killed. The Arab militias are targeting the non-Arab, black African population (killing of babies, the mass rape of women and girls, burning of homes and religious buildings...this is essentially genocide). Mt. Zion has sent a letter along with other churches and the faith community to President Bush to act immediately to increase humanitarian aid. We should also pray for the innocent lives being effected by this conflict. This is also a good reminder of how blessed we are here in the U.S. We truly have absolutely NO reason to complain. God has also laid it on my heart for us to give a donation to aid in the humanitarian effort. So on 12/24 and 12/31, the love offering from these services will be donated to help the people of Darfur. Please see the following website for additional information: http://www.savedarfur.org/

Dress Code, Spreading the Gospel to Japan, Skits & Pizza (Pastoral Emphasis from 7/26)

Thanks to all who came out to the Church Family Meeting. Our focus is reach the lost with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Even though we don't have a formal dress code at church, I think we have an unspoken one. Our guest may perceive a dress code based on what they see on the stage from leadership. So in order to remove any barriers that might prevent some from visiting us or feeling comfortable in our service, the leadership will dress a little more casual. We will try this out until the end of the year and then evaluate. So don't be surprised when you see me not wearing a tie! I shared the following email that we got via our website to show that we are spreading the Gospel worldwide. To God be the glory! Greetings Mt. Zion Church Family...Today is July 27, 2009 and I would like to share the blessing that I have received from your church. I was talking to my very dear sister, soror, friend Sis Brandi Hancock and she and I were having a heart to heart. I told her that I was

One Life Saved

The Bible declares that all life is valuable. "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (Psalm 139:13-14). Here's the story of one life saved....
